Start with your stores, the settings pet food needs (sub-units, expiry, lots), and the Services module that runs your grooming salon.

## Before you start

- You have signed up and logged in ([first login tour](https://docs.smartposhub.com/start/first-login-tour/)).
- You know your tax rates for goods and for grooming services (some places don't tax grooming).

## 1. Your stores

1. **Settings › Business Locations**: edit the first location (store and grooming salon), then **Add** further stores.
2. Each location keeps its own stock, register and receipts.

## 2. Product settings for pet food

1. Open **Settings › Business Settings**.
2. **Product** tab: tick **Enable Sub Units** and **Enable Product Expiry**; set **On Product Expiry** (**Keep Selling** or **Stop Selling n days before**).
3. **Purchases** tab: tick **Enable Lot number**.
4. **Reward Point Settings** tab: tick **Enable Reward Point** if you run a points program ([step 5](https://docs.smartposhub.com/business-types/pet-store/step-5-memberships-and-loyalty/)).
5. Click **Update Settings**.

## 3. Switch on the modules

> **How to turn it on**
> 1. **Plan:** Services, Order options & personalisation, Website & online store and Shopper app must be in your plan (Settings › Package Subscription).
> 2. **Switch:** Settings › Business Settings › Modules tab, then Update Settings.
> 3. **Permission:** Owner or admin.

1. On the **Modules** tab, under **Industry modules**, turn on **Services** (grooming). **Bookings** becomes available with it.
2. Turn on **Order options & personalisation** if you want pet details on appointments and custom ID tags.
3. Turn on **Recurring invoices** if you bill memberships monthly ([step 5](https://docs.smartposhub.com/business-types/pet-store/step-5-memberships-and-loyalty/)).
4. Turn on **Website & online store** and **Shopper app & Scan & Go** to sell online.
5. Click **Update Settings**.

## 4. Staff

Create a user for each groomer, bather and cashier in **User Management › Users**. In **User Management › Roles**, a typical groomer role has **Services: manage own appointments (staff)** plus POS selling. See [Users and roles](https://docs.smartposhub.com/start/users-and-roles/).

## 5. Price groups

Create **Products › Selling Price Group** entries such as **Rescue pricing** or **Trade (trainers & daycares)**, then enter group prices or use them with customer groups. See [Price groups](https://docs.smartposhub.com/catalog/price-groups/).

**Tip:**
Do the catalog next ([step 2](https://docs.smartposhub.com/business-types/pet-store/step-2-catalog-library-and-prebuilt/)): categories and brands make discounts, reports and the online store much easier later.

## Frequently asked questions

### Which modules does a pet store with grooming need?

Services (grooming menu, groomers, appointments). Bookings opens with it. Optionally Order options & personalisation for pet details, Website & online store, and Shopper app.

### Why switch on product expiry?

Pet food and treats have best-before dates. With expiry and lots on, each delivery gets its own date and you see what expires soon.

### Do I need sub-units?

Yes if you sell cans singly and by the case, or bags singly and by the pallet. Switch on Enable Sub Units.

### Can each store have its own groomers?

Yes. Groomers are users; each appointment is booked at a location, and each staff member has their own hours.

### Can rescue groups get a lower price?

Yes. Create a selling price group such as Rescue pricing and link it to the customer or customer group.
